It was a pleasure to work with Lee from Lost Marble. He has a unique talent for bringing ideas to life in the form of animation. Plus, the process was smooth from start to finish. I especially appreciated his flexibility in the feedback process where we were able to collaborate on creating the desired final product.

W hat an absolutely delightful client! Working with Coursera has been a fantastic experience. They showed great bravery and a sense of adventure with the style, granting me almost complete freedom to develop what they needed. Thankfully, this meant creating bubble-cars that ride around the rings of Saturn, retro-futuristic rockets and stretchy university buildings. It was incredibly enjoyable to bring these ideas to life.

The style I pitched was ‘mixed media,’ which, in my opinion, is one of the most versatile creative directions that can be made to suit almost any brand. It has a much broader appeal, reaching a wider potential audience. When dealing with a serious product or service, an explainer animation may not always be the best choice. However, ‘mixed media’ allows you to keep things interesting and fun while avoiding a cartoonish appearance. Jess and Naomi, my contacts at Coursera, immediately embraced the idea and also requested a degree of ‘retro futurism.’

The result is a pleasing blend of styles that is easy to watch and appeals to almost any demographic. We developed two separate animations—one highlighting the Coursera brand and the other focusing on explaining what a Coursera degree entails.

Given the chance, I would eagerly seize the opportunity to create a third video with Coursera.

Coursera Inc. is a U.S.-based massive open online course provider founded in 2012 by Stanford University computer science professors Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller. Coursera works with universities and other organizations to offer online courses, certifications, and degrees in a variety of subjects.

Lee has been amazing to work with. We were really impressed by his creativity and interpretation of the brief and once we were in production, Lee was flexible and easy to work with.
